Baby Blossom is a pure white Peruvian boar.
He was rescued by Kelly and as she already had two of his litter at home to care for, he came to live with me.
Baby Blossom was in a terrible state when he arrived, we estimated him to be between 5 - 8 weeks in age and he was by far the worst and smallest of his litter.
Weighing just 6oz, he was covered in scabs and his eyes were almost closed, he had the look of a very sick piggie and I feared I may not have him for very long.
Because Dusty has such a calm and friendly nature, I decided he should live with Baby. They took to each other straight away and Dusty didn't even mind when Baby went straight underneath him to see if he may be his Mum is disguise.
This was their usual arrangement in the first week Baby was with us. Dusty on his tip toes and Baby underneath just poking his head out now and again to see what was about. Now, much to Dusty's relief, he doesn't do it so much.
This sore on his head was particularly nasty but it has healed now
As you can see, Baby eats really well but his skin was not improving so I contacted Phil at Cobwebs and he gave me some brilliant advice that will very soon put an end to this poor little piggies misery of scabs, sores and hair loss.
Here is Baby plus and extra 2lbs in weight. His favourite food (apart from veggies, is warm porridge made with condensed milk and water. He looks worse because the scabs have come away from his skin and it is now beginning to heal (finally!)
I think the saying is 'It gets worse before it gets better'
He had scabs in places I didn't even know about and it wasn't until they all came off that I realised well over half of his little body was covered in them!
Even his little nose is bald!
These last 3 photos were taken 2 weeks after Baby arrived.
He is still bald but hair is starting to grow back.
He has now had 2 treatments of Ivermec and is due his last dose in 10 days time.
He is a really brave little pig.
We did think he may be blind but I am beginning to have my doubts now because looks around in wonder when I turn the lights on in the evening and will even look up at me and wheek to see what new veggies I have for him.
Dusty is very protective of him which is good and hopefully, he will grow into the Stunning Pure White, Blue eyed Peru Boar he should be.
Baby after a bath and blow dry 5 days before his last treatment.
A very big THANK YOU to eveyone who has helped and advised me, especially Sue from Kentish Cavies for the carnation milk and porridge suggestion, Phil at Cobwebs for skin advise and of course Kelly for saving him from a horrid and probably very short life of misery.
I will update this page regularly with his progress.
Baby went to live with my friend on 22nd May. These pictures were taken the day he moved out but although he has now left me, I still get to see him everyday.
I think Baby will always be very small but his hair and skin are now in wonderul condition and his eyes are clear and blue like they should be.
Please ivermec your piggies or find a vet who can.
Don't let them suffer like this poor little guy suffered.
Its so easy to keep them protected.
All the best
Jox
